Nice fish on Lake Martin

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Today, I received a report from Captain Doug.  He went out with Tim to Lake Martin and they caught them well.

Tim is holding a nice fish and they caught more than 70 fish! They caught mainly on shallow and some on deep structure.  Maybe cloudy warm weather helped fish bite better.

Davis bait

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Today, I went to Airport marine in Alabaster, Al to pick up my prop.  It was done beautifully.  They did good job. My Yamaha T1 prop is back to new!

Then I went to Davis Bait company to see my friend, Willie.  He had a few companies there while his people were packing and making jigs and spinnerbaits.

My friend just opend a business in Japan so I picked up a few baits for his store.  Willie gave me his signatured crankbait for his shop! Thank you!

He make such good spinnerbaits and jigs also.  I like his Xwire that gives more vibration and stronger than other brands.

This is my favorite color of his spinnerbait.  It looks small, but the well balanced body is actually extends to inside the skirt so it runs very balanced.  You can see more of his products at www.davisbait.com .

well, thank you for the great day again.

Can you believe?

The lip of  top side crankbait used to look like the left side crankbait lip when it was new.

This Japanese hand made crankbait might give a little different action now, but it still catch many good fish.

It’s all about how the bait move the water under the water and how they get around the rocks and covers.  I digged many many hard bottoms with this bait.

I caught many smallmouth this summer, spotted bass and largemouth last few years with this lure.

If you would like to try, the only place we can get this bait is at Mark’s Outdoors in Birmingham, Alabama at 1-877-979-6275.

Deep cranking!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

It was cold this morning again.  It started to become more like fall weather. I see mountains around here are getting more colors.  So we enjoy this sunshine very much.

This almost 4 pound fish hit when we were cranking about 8-10′ with this B7 Deep crankbait.

We caught 3 more fish with this bait and we switched to jig with Sasuteki craw again and caught 2 more fish.  Doug had a good fish in the deeper bush but he left that fish for his next guide service day.

Alabama is getting cold especially in the morning.  Are we getting winter soon?

Frozen morning.

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This morning was very cold.  My truck windshield was frozen badly.  But there was a person who still forgot to pick up the right gear……. hahaha.

We had a tough morning bite, but fish started to bite in the afternoon like this one.

oops, this one.

This largemouth bass hit Carolina rig Sasuteki Craw.  My fish hit 3/8 oz jig with Sasuteki trailer.

We did not catch many bass today, but we enjoyed the warm sun and it was beautiful.

Aragon on fire!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Jason just sent me a photo with his fish today.

I knew he had a lot of confidence in that bait when we went fishing last time.  But we did not get fish like that!  He was fishing a hard bottom rocky point with faster retrieving Aragon.  Nice fish, Jason.

Custom jigs

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Today, I went to visit my friend, Tim.  He makes good jigs for flipping in cover.  He modifys a little so that the jig has a diffrent movement and makes more noise on the bottom.

DSCF0004

He also uses a heavy duty hook and weed guard that I can flip in the heaviest cover on the river without getting hang ups.  He made me several jigs while I was there.

Well, I will try Tim’s jig with the Sasuteki Craw on the Coosa river tomorrow.  This combination has been working very well for me last few years.

More Coosa river spots

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Here, Jonathan caught nice spots on Shakey head rig. He was throwing to about 10 feet deep and dragging on the bottom. This was his first good fish of the day so he got excited!

DSCF0008

Then we went into a small creek.  We were fishing a hard bottom area with crankbait and he caught this good one when we were about to leave this spot.

DSCF0011

This day, fish did not want to bite right away. We had to slow down to make them bite.  We caught several more fish and we ended the day.  I saw Jonathan used Shakey head rig on the bait casting tackle for fishing inside the cover, and he was successfully landing more fish than spinning gear.

Coosa River spots!

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I finally got to  go out for a few hours on the river.  It was a cold morning. Everything was frozen on my cars and trucks outside.

Here, I caught a nice spotted bass on Green Pumpkin Sasuteki Craw.  I had to drag this bait very slowly and she hit when I felt a tree under the water.  This bait was not very impressive when I saw it at the first time, but I caught many fish recently at different locations that gave me a good confidence now.
