I shad fish!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

It was a beautiful day yesterday, and I went to fish for testing my new lures again.

I caught this fish on one ounce Alabama dropshot!(Carolina rig)

It was funny that I tried all kinds of hard baits and I did not get bite at all.  I switched to this 4.8″ I shad and 3 fish!  Weather was the big factor.  Blue sky and very little wind, so they wanted a slower presentation with a natural fall.  I will show exactly how I caught these fish on movie soon!

Guntersville on fire, too!

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

My friends, Chris, Jami, Anthony and Jonathan fished a tournament on Guntersville on Saturday.  Their teams finished 2nd and 3rd!! wow!  Chris caught a 7 plus pounder on spinnerbait and took a lunker award.  He sent me a picture message right away!

Both teams had a good guide trip with Captain Doug before the tournament!

Doug has been getting good trips to Guntersville lately.  His people caught many fish and a few giant bass.  Guntersville is getting good for spring bites now, so give Doug a call (205)396-5556 or email him at fishendoug@hotmail.com and take a fun trip to lake Guntersville with him!

Testing untill dark!

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I went to test new lures this afternoon.  Some people can tell what kind of bait I am throwing through this photo!?

I have been working on this baits for several months already and I change a little bit of the parts to make it work better each time.  Well, this is a part of lure testing before it goes into the production model.  It takes time and a lot of work and effort!  It’s almost there, and I would like to put this lure in the market before summer!

From Clear Lake to Alabama

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Clear Lake tournament was another learning experience for me.  Third day was very interesting that I caught more fish on swim baits but they were only 3 pounders!  Weather was getting better and the morning was warmer, so I guess  more male fish were cruising shallow water.  I noticed that slower retrieving triggered more strikes than faster moving baits.  Fish were biting better in deeper water in the morning, then after 9-10 o’clock, they started to swim around shallower water by tulies.  I used Jackall Flick shake 4.8 and 5.8 in watermelon and green pumpkin color with drop shot in the morning.  I was fishing in high pressured area with other competitors, so this worked very well.  Then I switched to swimbaits like Ammonite Shad, Swimming Ninja and other shad tail type lures.  It was interesting to see that fish prefered different lures and colors each day, so it was important to have a few different lures on the deck all the time.

Well, I started driving to Alabama. It is a long way, but I love the scenery on the way.

I was fortunate to get checks at both California Delta and Clear lake tournaments this time.  I have learned many things again each day on the water.  Now I am going to Alabama and get ready for the next tournament.  Oh, I will stop by at my frined’s place on the way!!

I will show you my equipment that I used at Clear lake tournament soon.

Try again!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I got to the third day at the Bassmaster Elite series on Clear lake.  I am in 21st place now.  I will probably need 22-24 pounds today to make top 12 for the final day.  Weather forecast predicts it will go up to almost 70 degree today.  If I can get a 17-18 pounds earlier, I will try these new Swimming Ninja again for big bites! They are beat up already but it might look better for fish!?

First day on Clear lake

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Bassmaster Elite series on Clear lake just started.  I had a little trouble with my GPS unit since the first thing in the morning.  Lake is not big and my area was not far, so it did not make very much difference.  Fish were biting well in the spot with large baits at practice, but they bit better with slower presentation such as Flick shake and carolina rig.  I am just amazed how effectice these baits are.  I just had to leave the bait and fish take them. I think fishing pressure has a lot to do especially in shallow and clear water.  I caught 19 pounds and started 19th place.  I hope to catch them today!

Clear Lake

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Clear lake is a beautiful lake.  I love the view.  Most mountains are already green but some has still snow on the top.

Well, I was hoping fishing is as good as the beautiful lake, but this time, we came much earlier than last time, and fishing is very different for me.  I still got a half the day today to practice, so I will go find them!

That one fish……………

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Yesterday was another tough fishing day. I only had 5 bites.  I caught one on the vibration baits in the morning.  I was hoping to get more bites on the moving baits. Then I changed to flipping/pitching pattern.  I flipped and flipped rest of the day.  I caught the one almost 5 pounder in the grass.  Then I did not have a bite for a while.  All the sudden I felt a weight on my rod tip, then I set the hook immediately and it was almost a 4 pounder!!  I got him out of the grass and I was ready to lip him.  That moment, he made a last head turn and he got unhooked……………………..  I only had 4 fish yesterday, so that could put me much better place than where I am now.  Oh well, that’s fishing!  I made to the 3rd day now, so I am just going to have more fun!!
